Bruins select Hamill
With the #8 pick, the Bruins went the safe route and took Zach Hamill…the guy who wasn’t the biggest or most explosive person available, but someone (the pundits say) who could be a solid player for the Bruins down the road.
Hey, not that that’s a BAD thing…any time someone draws comparisons to Chris Drury they have to be pretty good…but I’m a little disappointed they didn’t take Alexei Cherepanov or even Angelo Esposito. I can see why they played their hand conservatively…especially given a weak draft topped off with some boom or bust prospects…but at the #8 spot, hindsight grants you a little more leeway. If the pick bombs, it’s not like you blew a top three pick and if the pick turns out to be a steal, you look like a genius in the end.
Besides, admit it, most of us secretly (or not so secretly) wanted to be able to root for an Esposito again.

Cherepanov and Esposito were passed over by how many other teams? A good number for 2 guys who were supposed to be Top 5 picks. No disappointment here. Hamill’s a good smart tough kid who was also ranked very high. I’d rather have those traits than a headcase who can skate fast but doesn’t recognize his own goaltender and is prone to pouting and not being motivated. Scott Bradley has been gold while heading up amateur scouting. Why second guess him on this pick?

I can’t believe that Esposito fell to the Penguins at #20. The knock on him was that he underperformed without talent around him. That won’t be an issue in Pittsburgh. Wow.

Yeah, that was one knock on him, for course you’re not mentioning knocks 2-5 on him
Lazy, unmotivated, puck hog, one-sided game, potentially concussion-prone…
