The freight train keeps on rolling
The Bruins are 12-1-1 in their last 14 games. 17-4-4 for the season.
Think about that for a minute. Roll it around in your mouth like a fine wine. Savor it.
Can they keep up this pace, which projects out to 124-125 points for the season? Probably not. Hey, I’m an optimist, but even those numbers seem to be a stretch to me. But to have the first 100-point season since 2003-04? I can dig that. Maybe even this time around, go farther than the first round of the playoffs. Maybe make it to the 2nd round for the first time in a decade. But, hey, it’s way too early for that kind of talk. Right now, I’m just enjoying the ride.
David Krejci’s short handed game winner tonight reminded me of something I’ve been meaning to say about him…he has to be one of the best stickhandlers in the league. The puck orbits his stick like a planet to a sun. Not only that, his greasy moves allow him to slip by even the most agile of defenders. Nearly every game he gets around someone with a seemingly impossible move. The kid has been simply incredible. I’m overdue for a new Bruins jersey and I’m torn between Krejci and Lucic if I do decide to get one.
Chara’s play was less than impressive tonight. On a night where they suddenly found themselves without Dennis Wideman, Chara needed to step up his game but instead let people get behind him and had problems keeping the puck in the offensive zone. Fortunately the young D, especially Shane Hnidy, stepped up their game and Tim Thomas was his same spectacular self.
Johnny “Chef” Boychuck made his Bruins debut tonight. No word as to whether or not the Bruins plan on recalling Phil “The Spanish Slot Machine” Esperanza or Bobby Knorr from Providence any time soon.
